This entire system is not user-friendly. It fails miserably in communicating the most basic information, most notably that it will only work with iPads, iPhones, or recent-release iPods. Why then is there an option to download the app to my iMac if I cant actually use it on my iMac? I am *very angry* at having my time wasted!
Found a title in my local library for digital download that I thought might be interesting, so I attempted to check it out. At no point did it say that I could only listen to this title from an iPad, iPhone, or recent-release iPod. First, I created an account with OneClickdigital. I then chose the Mac Download for the app and installed it. Next I tried again to download the title. It downloaded a .zip file that upon opening I discovered I couldnt actually play. So I tried again. This time, having an account and this app, I went back to my library site and tried to checkout the title again. Ah, success! I thought… I waited while OneClickdigital Media Manager downloaded the title. After several minutes it finished. Finally, I can start listening to the book. Ooops! Sorry. No. I get a pop-up message that I need to connect my iPod, or if its connected, disconnect it and reconnect it. iPod? I want to listen to the book while doing some paperwork on my system. Oh, wait. Go back and start digging and digging and digging. It says its a "fully functioning player if you want to listen to the audiobook on your computer," however, there are no instructionsfor listening on your computer. All of the support information on their site is for listening on a mobile device. Theres a 20-minute video… that only talks about mobile devices!
So if you arent planning on using it with a mobile device, forget about it. Go checkout or purchase a real book that doesnt require poorly executed software designed for iOS devices.
Question. Why does Apple allow iOS apps to show up in the Mac App Store?
